Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Pat Kagan began her adult life in the arts as a classical pianist. Her love for music was one facet of her passion for the arts in general and was matched by a deep interest in mathematics and science.

Pat has explored virtually every medium available to her, including watercolor, pastel, oil and acrylic, stone carving, wire fabrication, printmaking and ceramics. If she sees it, she needs to experience it. Her representational portraits and figures are now evolving into more abstract forms as continued visits to South Africa influence her work. She believes that the strong, vibrant colors and intense light of Africa are a part of her vision, as is her love for the people of South Africa.
