I paint for the sheer joy of moving paint around on a surface and following where it leads. I almost never start with a blank canvas. Way too scary!!! Some of my favorite paintings are ones that emerge from the canvas, after I have 'messed it up' with paint. Even when I have a vague notion of what I am going to paint, I will put a variety of colours on the canvas first. My paintings are a joint project between me and The Creative Spirit. The more I step out of the way, the better the painting.
