Barbara Rachko Online Art Listing
Barbara Rachko's series of pastel-on-sandpaper paintings, entitled The Domestic Threats, uses Mexican folk art—masks, carved wooden animals, papier mâché figures, and toys in a lively blend of reality and fantasy. On trips to central Mexico Rachko visits local mask shops, markets, and bazaars searching for the figures that will later populate her paintings. Rachko incorporates a variety of influences in her artwork, including child¬hood memories and images encountered in literature, pre-columbian art, and cinema.
