 The pain of illiteracy
Cheryl Braganza Online Art Listing
Essentially a self-taught batik and acrylic artist, Cheryl Braganza lives in Montreal, Quebec. Born in Bombay, she was fortunate to meet F.N. Souza, the renowned Indian progressive painter in London in 1965, who encouraged her to continue painting after he saw the oil portrait of himself she had completed. 'I want my art to play a role in lifting people's spirits, in challenging their assumptions, in provoking thought... thus promoting dialogue between peoples towards peace. I love painting Indian women. Besides being beautiful they show so much strength and character. It is my belief that women will be the dynamic force to inspire a more caring, more loving world.'
