Award-winning artist Brenda Howell is inspired by the wild, natural landscape. Her emphasis is the American West and the Grand Canyon, where she lived in the national park for four years doing graphic design work for the lodges on the South Rim, and then made the transition to painting full time. She works primarily in oils both plein air and in the studio. Her work speaks of fascination with rock structure and dramatic light on complex natural forms. Making her first landscape painting in oils at age five, she got an early start, being blessed by her mother’s passion for art and teaching her children along with teaching private art classes. Brenda now makes her home and studio in Northern New Mexico and travels in her paintmobile to various locations in the west.
