Karin Carter Online Art Listing
Karin Carter is an award-winning artist who creates mixed media pieces, often 3-D, often of wood, metal, paint, found objects, or fabric. She delights in creating startling or funny juxtapositions and saying something about light, color, and composition, often while expressing a larger concept.
She’s been in a number of group shows, including a traveling show of art quilts that was featured in FiberArts Magazine, where her piece was highlighted. The art quilts became stranger and stranger, involving nailing fabric to wood and sewing on paper bags, experimentation that lead her to the mixed media work she does now. See her work on her Web site, www.karin-carter.com. Her work has been commissioned privately and an early piece, an art quilt, is in the Brakensiek quilt collection in Los Angeles.
Karin trained extensively for a career in art by graduating with a degree in French from the University of California, Berkeley. She’s also attended RISD’s summer session in Rome, Italy, and taken various art classes through Santa Barbara City College. Karin was born in Santa Barbara, California, spent some time overseas working in Tunisia and France, and then landed in Seattle for a long stretch of employment in the tech industry. In 2004 she returned to her home state, first living in her hometown of Santa Barbara, and currently living in her husband’s hometown of Sacramento.
