Jenny Arntzen Online Art Listing Jenny Arntzen Artist Statement: In my studio practice, I work with portraiture. The philosophical underpinnings of this work embraces the notion that the only truth we can know is the one we construct within ourselves. We live in a world that is a composite of a multiplicity of truths. There is no one right answer, there is an amorphous and constantly shifting context, within which we are responding, constructing, formulating and expressing. My portrait projects express this perspective. One portrait work is a collection of a series of portraits. For example, my latest project is comprised of 28 paintings, all different views of the subject. These portraits are exhibited as installations, an experience not only of the paintings produced within the project, but also, depending on the nature of the portrait, there can be a video component, or a sound component, or a combination of sound, video and paintings or drawings. The viewer has an experience, not only of the subject of the portrait project, but also their internal responses to the variations, their own shifting constructions of meaning in relation to the work. |
