DFW Pollard - Canadian Landscapes in Watercolour
Doug Pollard has had a passion for the outdoors since he was a child growing up in England. He loves to hike, fish and watch birds. With his sketch book he tries to capture the essence of the landscapes that are the bonus of any day out of doors, no matter what the weather or season. Occasionally he will paint on the spot, but his trusty sketch book is always with him, and provides a far better starting point for his watercolours than any photograph he can take. He paints in Canada, New Zealand and the British Isles, but his favourite venue is Newfoundland: from Conception Bay, where his wife Penny spent her childhood, with its magificent coastal landcapes, to Gros Morne National Park in the west, with its stunning geology and ecology, and its truly exceptional skies. Since 2005, much of his work has been featured in the Boardwalk Gallery in Trout River, on the edge of the Park.
