Betty Anglin Smith was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, and educated at Winthrop College and College of Charleston. She has studied painting with various nationally-known artists. Her watercolors received both regional and national recognition. In 1986, Smith began the study of oil painting and eventually turned from watercolors strictly to oil painting, using more vivid colors and expressionistic brushwork. Her subject matter also changed focusing more on landscape, especially the coastal wetlands of the low country near Charleston. Her work is included in a number of public and corporate collections.
