Erin Miele is an accomplished visual artist based in the Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania. She works in both oil and encaustic paints
to create representational and abstract artwork. She has been exhibiting and selling her work for about seven years. Her most recent solo show was held this past summer in Pennsylvania, at the Widman Gallery. From June through September of this year, her work was also part of a major exhibition at the Roberson Museum in upstate New York, juried by acclaimed realist Philip Pearlstein. She is showing new work in December at the Lexington Avenue Armory, New York, NY. Her educational background includes graduation from Barnard College as well as a post-grad year at Trinity College, Dublin. In some of her most well-received work, palette knives of varying widths replace brushes. She has used this technique for cityscapes, including Fifth Avenue Library at Closing Hour, Scranton Stepdancers, Autumn in New York, and Manhattan Rhythm. Using a knife rather than a brush helps to avoid fussing over details or "painting down" to the viewer with too much specificity. The tool forces the artist to imply an action, rather than laboriously depict it, and is useful in creating action and excitement.
