Kate Hoekstra's work is a fusion of contemporary realism and
impressionism. For her, a recognizable object is important, but more
so is the emotional impact on the viewer. She maintains a gallery
studio in Putnam Valley, NY, where she does commissioned portraits as
well as other studio work. Primarily a self taught painter, she has
studied at Silvermine Art Guild and Garrison Art Center. An early
influence was Wende Caporale who provided a strong introduction to
the pastel portrait.
