Jennie Castle has a background in fine art and degrees in architecture from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban, South Africa. Now living in County Kilkenny, Ireland, Jennie works from her studio space, CASTLERIN Studios and Workshops, at ‘The Studio’, Bennettsbridge.
Painting and drawing have always been a central thread running through her work. Subject matter has varied over time, from the plant environment to the built and inhabited environment. Recent exhibitions have given the artist the opportunity to integrate the two creative disciplines of architecture and fine art and explore the use of line in paintings. The significance of the line - drawn and painted, informative and decorative - is revealed in new work. The application of paint, of oils in their pure colour form, applied to ‘non-colour’ backgrounds creating other-worldly effects is also of importance.
